Kaja Sailing
The Adventure Begins!
Welcome!
This is our first attempt at creating a website. We have a long way to go. Please come back frequently to see our progress as we plan, prepare, and eventually progress circumnavigating the world.
"Kaja" is Korean for "let's go." To the left is our logo for Kaja, designed by HeeJung. The blue represents the ocean waves, the black is the Korean calligraphy for Kaja, the yellow is the sun, and the green represents the green flash that occurs at sunset.
Our grand plan is to circumnavigate the globe beginning in January 2024 with the World Cruising Club in an event called the World ARC. Beginning in St. Lucia, the journey will take us about 16 months to complete as we follow the trade winds west.
Of course, one does not embark on this type of journey lightly. To gain some good double-handed cruising experience, we are spending the first half of 2023 island hopping through the Caribbean. In May we'll sail from the Caribbean to Bermuda and on to Annapolis. Over the summer we'll fix all the stuff we broke and make changes based on what we learned from our time on the water.
You can follow our path around the world with our Yellow Brick tracker!
In the meantime, here's a really cool video shot by Owen Goodhew. In June 2022, Kaja sailing in the Annapolis to Bermuda Race. The footage here is the calm leg down the Cheasapeake Bay. Outside the Bay things got a bit "sporty" as we followed Tropical Storm Alex to Bermuda.
